The Coastal Food Systems Coordinator is responsible for communicating the vision and mission of the South Coast Food Council and NeighborWorks® Umpqua as it relates to food systems work in southwestern Oregon.  This position will follow the initial strategic plan set-out by the founding Southwestern Oregon Food Systems Collaborative (SWOFSC) and assist in the annual update of that plan.

The incumbent will be responsible for advising the Director of Community and Economic Development, NeighborWorks Umpqua and key partners on the development of strategic plans, policies, communications, and evaluation tools that will encourage a food system that promotes health, equity, and the environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitie

Policy Development and Coordination

  • Support the formation of the official South Coast Food Council
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of food policies, plans, and goals of the Food Council, including, but not limited to:
    • Expansion of the existing Seafood Value Chain
    • Value Chain Creation of other agricultural based industries (such as cranberries, organics, etc.)

Program Development and Implementation

  • Lead food systems strategic planning processes to set goals, develop implementation plan, and identify programmatic activities on annual basis
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of the South Coast Food Council food systems strategic plan
  • Coordinate and prioritize food projects within NeighborWorks Umpqua’s region
  • Conduct research, develop strategies and lead grant writing efforts to enhance program funding from public and private resources
  • Develop agendas and lead monthly Food Council meetings
  • Report on program progress to NWU leadership, partners, and community members
  • Communications and Outreach
  • Lead development of NWU’s food systems communications plan, including the development and maintenance of website, newsletters, presentations and other materials in partnership with NWU’s marketing team
