Description:
In 2015, The New Yorker published an article “The Really Big One” that provided a graphic description of what could happen in the Pacific North West if we experience a major Cascadia subduction zone earthquake. Oregon Public Broadcasting also produced the documentary “unprepared” that uses scientific data to explain how unprepared we are for a major earthquake. We (Home Forward) have been working with the City, county and state to help us become resilient and prepared to re-store our community when needed. We found information and plans online and some consultants presented projects but all of those were “cookie cutter” and did not fit the needs of public housing. Emergency response: Even though we are not first responders, there are many things we can do to prepare our buildings to help first responders: Building Emergency Plans (Shut offs, maps etc.); Seismic upgrades; Community resources: NET/CERT teams and BEECN.
