Shyle Ruder, Education and Outreach Director, Fair Housing Council of Oregon

In this session we will review the basics of fair housing and give special focus to source of income (section 8 vouchers and other types of public assistance). Statewide FHCO receives complaints of housing discrimination related to source of income, some of which is intentional and some unintentional. Discrimination might look like a housing provider is denying a rental application because someone receives housing assistance, tenants experiencing an increased number of inspections because they are voucher holders, or housing providers trespassing case workers from the social service agency that provides housing assistance. In this session we will review some basic do’s and don’ts of fair housing law as it relates to source of income.
