From the Director's Desk
August 2018
Thanks for the many welcomes as I step in as the new Director of the statewide Housing Oregon membership-based team of 127 amazing affordable housing and community development organizations, businesses, and government agencies. It is an honor and privilege to advance our mission to advocate on the local and state levels for programs and policies to ensure all Oregonians have a healthy and stable place to live.
There are many opportunities and challenges ahead for all of us. We have two critical affordable housing ballot measures to pass on November 6 – one statewide, the other for the Portland Metro area – and numerous State legislative priorities to determine with our partners before the start of the 2019 session. We are also searching for several industry leaders to join our 15-person strong board of directors.
We can’t succeed without you!
I invite you to join housing advocates from across the state at our annual membership meeting and Annual Awards Gala on Thursday, Sept. 6, followed by the Industry Support Conference Friday, Sept. 7 at the Hilton Portland Downtown. Together we’ll celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our organizational members, share best practices with each other, and strategize how best to mobilize and win in November and at the Legislature.
I want to personally thank Jerome Brooks, our outgoing Director, for leading the organization through a significant reorganization and rebranding over the past two years. Due to his efforts Housing Oregon is on a more stable financial footing to carry on our critical work.
Friends, join me in supporting our vision of an Oregon where equitable access to resources and opportunity is the means to a healthy and economically vibrant peoples and communities.
If I haven’t already reached out to you, please take some time to connect with me soon at brian@housingoregon.org or 503-475-6056.
