Ramon Ramirez

board member, Farmworker Housing Development Corp. and

President, Pineros y Campesinos Unidos del Noroeste (PCUN)

As a fearless activist as well as an elected official who always stood up for what is right, Gretchen Kafoury had a profound and lasting impact on our state and its people. This award honors an individual, organization or endeavor that had a significant impact in the past year on affordable housing, community development and/or social justice in Oregon.

Ramon Ramirez is a nationally recognized figure for his work in the social justice arena. Today, he is fighting along with other individuals for more humane treatment for the families on the border, against the separation of families, closing detention centers, and many more.  Ramon has fought along with recognized figures including Cesar Chavez, Dolores Huerta, and Cipriano Ferrell.  The License For All Campaign – HB 2015 has been one of the many social justice campaigns that he has been working for many years now. Along with Causa and other sister organizations as PCUN, Mano a Mano, Capaces, and FHDC, on August 9th, the Governor signed the bill HB 2015, which will allow our immigrant community to drive safely in Oregon. This is a significant accomplishment for a community that is under daily attack by the current administration.
