Senator Kayse Jama

Senator Kayse Jama, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Housing and Development has been a champion for affordable housing and tenant rights since taking office in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. In that short time, he has helped pass legislation investing over $1.3 billion to prevent evictions, create affordable housing, and support home ownership. This included support for HB 5202 during the 2022 short session providing $400M to support homeownership, increasing affordable housing and addressing houselessness. Jama has been a trusted community leader for over 20 years advocating for economic and racial justice for our state’s most vulnerable residents.
