Home Forward is seeking two (2) Maintenance Generalists.  The Maintenance Generalist performs a wide range of manual labor tasks to ensure that the agency’s apartment communities are safe and sanitary places to live and work, efficient to operate and assets to their neighborhoods. 
One of the positions will work full time at our Hollywood East property. Hollywood East is a 14-story project-based Section 8 apartment community with 286 studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom homes.  The community has a waiting list preference for seniors and persons with disabilities and is located in the Hollywood district of Northeast Portland.

The second position will work full time and float between our various properties to provide additional support.

Some essential job functions include:

  • Prepare vacant apartment units for resident occupancy
  • Clean and sanitize property common areas including community rooms, offices, restrooms, laundry rooms, hallways, stairwells, elevators and lobbies; sweep, mop, polish, strip, wax and buff using commercial grade equipment.
  • Complete routine building maintenance and repairs; replace door stops; unplug toilets
  • Monitor and maintain property landscape and curb appeal
  • Interact with residents, coworkers, supervisor and others in a professional manner
  • Order and maintain inventory of supplies and participate in site inventories of supplies and equipment
  • Clean up and dispose of hazardous waste materials such as syringes, needles, condoms, blood and feces. Dispose of hazardous materials properly

Education & Experience Guidelines

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:
Sufficient education to perform at a level of competency corresponding to the work assigned.

Experience:
One year of janitorial, grounds keeping, landscaping or building trades experience.

License or Certificate
Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All maintenance staff are required to wear Home Forward approved uniform, appropriate foot wear and personal protection equipment as required of specific work tasks.  Maintenance staff must have the ability to wear and use a half mask respirator, which includes being cleared through a medical questionnaire and the maintenance of facial hair in a manner that allows a half mask respirator to seal without the intrusion of hair between the seal and skin.
