Housing Oregon's Next Step
Ensuring a more sustainable and stable organization
Since I joined Oregon Opportunity Network (now Housing Oregon) in spring 2016, I have been proud to represent every one of our voting and affiliate members, our sponsors, and all of our supporters who are working to build, finance, and support affordable housing.
Together, we have accomplished quite a bit – winning legislative victories with our partners and allies, re-branding the organization, and expanding our membership to deepen impact and diversify.
Today, I am announcing the next step in Housing Oregon’s evolution.
This spring, the organization will be transitioning to run as a traditional trade association, led by an association manager. We will continue to employ lobbyists to run our policy work, as well as contractors as needed for other projects.
This will create long-term financial sustainability. It will ensure members continue to have a voice at state and local policy tables. And it will continue our commitment to support affordable housing organizations with trainings and conferences.
Members will continue to have access to peer learning groups, conferences, our annual members award dinner, and representation at policy tables in Salem and in Portland Metro area.
Welcome Home Coalition will be moving to be fiscally-sponsored by JOIN. Having been a founding member of the coalition, JOIN is excited to host Welcome Home and support it in its development. Kari and Monique will be working in March to finalize this transition, with input from their Steering Committee.
Housing Oregon staff will be transitioning as well. Lizzie’s last day will be March 8th. We wish her the best.
I am committed to leading the organization through this transition, in coordination with the Board of Directors. I am working with additional staff to determine the next steps.
I appreciate all of your support.
In Partnership,
Jerome Brooks
Executive Director
